In September 2025 Wimborne Orienteers are hosting the British Mountain Bike (MTBO) Orienteering Championships. The event is also part of the World Masters Series.
The event is being planned and organised by our very own Kevin Pickering, who is the current World Masters M70 Champion. We are utilising three forests in close proximity.
The Saturday morning to the main event centre, all of which are in easy "warm up" cycling distance. All three forests are blessed with a good network of fast tracks so it will be a thorough test of speed and endurance versus navigation. A miss count on the number of track junctions you have passed and you could find yourself tumbling down the leader board!
Event Location
The event will consist of three separate races on three different locations/maps.
- Saturday morning Middle Distance race in Hurn Forest (WMS)
- Saturday afternoon Sprint Moors Valley (WMS)
- Sunday morning Long Distance in Ringwood North
There is a local event centre for the Saturday morning event (please see Bulletin 2) with the remaining two events being centered at Moors Valley Country Park and Forest, which is located in Eastern Dorset on the fringes of the New Forest.
The location is ideally suited for those driving to the area with easy access to the A31, M27 and the M3.
It is also well serviced by public transport links. For those wishing to travel by train Bournemouth Station is only 12 miles south of the event centre. For those travelling from further a field it is 10 miles from Bournemouth Airport and 25 miles from Southampton Airport.
